About us
I'm Sam, the founder of Le Flux, and the creator of the adjustable menstrual cycle clock.
I'm originally from Sydney, Australia and based in Paris, France, and I've been working on building the menstrual cycle clock for a couple of years now.
I made the first menstrual cycle clock for myself, because I needed it.
I was having bad pre-menstrual symptoms, with very dark moods and difficult emotions that were affecting my quality of life and my relationships.
It took me years to realise that these regular bouts of dark depression and anxiety were tied to my cycle. After I made the connection, the thing that helped me the most was learning more about the menstrual cycle and practising menstrual cycle awareness.
I was using a period tracking app, but it was often out of site out of mind. When shit got really bad, it wouldn’t always occur to me to check my phone to confirm the day, and I could get stuck in a dark place without realising what was happening. Talking about it with friends and in forums made it clear that I wasn’t the only one experiencing this.
I was tired of feeling out of control and in the dark about my own experience. I needed something visual, something omnipresent, that I could see on a daily basis, to have a constant awareness of where I was at in my cycle, so that I wouldn’t be blind-sided every month.
I needed a clock for my menstrual cycle.
When I couldn't find what I was looking for, I made one for myself and put it up in my bathroom at home.
It did exactly what I hoped it would, brought me a daily, intuitive awareness of my cycle and with it the different phases and hormonal changes that impacted my mood, concentration, energy levels, appetite… It also proved to be super helpful in my relationship, as my partner always knows where I am at and can support me.
It sounds dramatic, but my life hasn't been the same since.
Going from living most of my life without any idea where I was at in my cycle, except of course when i was bleeding, to having a daily awareness of my menstrual cycle brought me such a greater level of self knowledge and understanding, which in turn benefited my mental health, my relationships and general wellbeing.
Soon my friends were asking for menstrual cycle clocks, so I started making them for others. I got such positive feedback on the difference the clocks were making, that I realised this could be something that could help so many others if it were available.
And so Le Flux was born.
